This weekend, I visited the first annual West Texas Renaissance Festival here in Odessa, Texas, and I wanted to share a small glimpse of the experience.
A small glimpse of the color, costumes, and creative energy at Odessa’s first West Texas Renaissance Festival.
There is something special about seeing people step into a world that feels a little more magical than everyday life. For a moment, Odessa opened a small doorway into another time — filled with costumes, themed outfits, handmade details, and people willing to fully lean into the experience.
As someone who creates fine art portraiture, I naturally find myself drawn to the visual details: texture, fabric, color, dramatic styling, and the way people express themselves through what they wear and create. The Renaissance Festival had so many of those moments, from old-world-inspired accessories to beautiful handmade pieces crafted by local makers.
I only photographed a few small scenes while I was there, but I loved seeing the effort that went into the event and the businesses, artists, vendors, performers, and visitors who helped bring it to life. Events like this are such a good reminder that West Texas is full of creative people building something meaningful here.
If you attended, supported a vendor, dressed up, performed, or helped organize the festival, you were part of what made it feel special.
I hope Odessa continues to make room for events like this, we as a community deeply enjoyed it! This first one is only the beginning.
